How to Create Your Own Gaming Mode on an iPhone or iPad

Most smart devices these days have a built-in gaming mode that allows you to enjoy your games completely undisturbed. Apple was lagging behind in this regard, but with the introduction of Focus modes, it’s now easy to create a gaming mode on your iPhone or iPad.

What Is Gaming Mode?

Gaming mode is a type of Focus mode, which customizes your notification and alerts settings for whenever you’re playing mobile games. For example, you could mute all notifications, only allow notifications from your gaming pals, only allow urgent notifications, or make other adjustments.

Gaming mode is a way to avoid distractions when you’re trying to chill out and play a game. You can create lots of different Focus modes for other activities as well, like sleeping, driving, and working out.

How to Create a Gaming Focus Mode

You will have to have a device that’s compatible with iOS 15 or higher to use Focus modes. This handy feature is hidden in the Settings, but once you create a Gaming focus you can easily activate or deactivate it from the Control Center.

Follow the instructions below to create a Gaming focus mode on your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open Settings and select Focus.
  2. Press the plus (+) button in the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. Press Gaming, then Next.
  4. Here is where you can customize your notifications. If there is someone that you would like to be able to call you at any time, press the plyus (+) button to add them. If you would like a completely undisturbed gaming experience, press Allow None at the bottom of the page.
  5. Select Turn Gaming on Automatically.
  6. Press Done.

Make Gaming Mode Automatically Turn On

By default, Gaming mode will turn on automatically when you connect a wireless controller to your device or when you launch supported games. You can also manually choose which apps you would like to trigger gaming mode:

  1. Go to Settings > Focus > Gaming.
  2. Tap Add Schedule or Automation.
  3. Press App.
  4. Select your desired apps from the list provided.

You can check if this is working correctly by opening one of your games. A notification should appear at the top of the screen informing you that your phone is now in Gaming mode.
